Shri. P. Prasad, Minister for Agriculture represents Cherthala constituency of Alappuzha district in the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. His other portfolios include Soil Survey & Soil Conservation, Kerala Agriculture University and Warehousing Corporation.

He started his political career in association with All India Students Federation. As part of his political career, he held various positions like AISF taluk president, AISF state president, AIYF state executive member, CPI Pathanamthitta district secretary, All India Adivasi Mahasabha national executive member and Kerala University Senate Member. He is an executive committee member of Communist Party of India.

As a known social, environment activist he strongly supports environment related protests such as the agitation against the Aranmula International Airport project in Pathanamthitta district, Plachimada Coca-Cola struggle, anti-sand mining movement in the coastal areas of Arattupuzha and Thrikkunnapuzha in Alappuzha district etc. Previously he served the post of Chairman, Kerala State Housing Board from 26th December 2016 to 9th March 2021.

Shri. P. Prasad was born in 1969 as the son of G. Parameswaran Nair and Gomatiamma at Palamel, Nooranad of Alappuzha district. He holds a bachelors degree in Mathematics from NSS College, Pandalam. He is married to Laina and has two children Bhagat and Aruna Almitra.
